Accent light mood board

With the year marching on and the days growing longer, why not take the opportunity to introduce some subtle accent lighting to your space. There's nothing like the warm glow of a well placed accent light, helping you to bask in eveing light.

We haven't discussed lighting before, so let's go through some keys things to understand, so you can confidently bring some fresh lighting to your space.

Cleaning lights

These are the bright, cool lights which, in modern homes, are often recessed into the ceiling, or fixed in the centre of the room. These are lights you turn on when you want to see every detail, often while cleaning, or maybe searching for something you've lost in the house! These are not the lights you want to be trying to relax under after a hard day at work.

Task lights

Now we move on to an area you can have some more fun. Task lights generically describe the lighting intended to illuminate a particular work zone or area where you complete an activity, whether that be reading, eating, or trying to get some work done at a desk. These can ( and should ) be warmer and a little softer than cleaning lights and should be positioned in such a way as they are easy to turn on and off.

Accent lighting

Finally we get to the feature of todays post! Accent lighting or ambient lighting, is where you can really max out the vibes of a space. This should be warm and soft, positioned at eye level or below, whether it be a standing lamp, sconse, or lamp on a side table. This is where our sconces come in, they are an excellent way to express your taste within a space, while also serving a purpose. Accent lights come into their own in the evenings, when they can mimick the warm glow of a setting sun, and send those 'winding down' signals to our brains. This is key to creating a comfortable space that you will want to spend all evening in, admiring your lovely lighting.

We hope there was something useful there for you. This was a rather quick summary of the lighting fundamentals we as designers keep in mind when putting together a space, if you have any questions or want to discuss this further, feel free to reach us through our contact page. We have included links to a range of different pieces across all budgets to give you a full picture of what’s out there, hopefully you find something you like! Until the next time.
