In part II of our Finding Your Style series, we wanted to focus on colour, and how to express it across a space in a coherent way. The first thing to mention is that their is no 'right' style, only the one that works for you. And with that in mind, a good place to start is colour.
Colour is highly subjective, what works for you may not work for your partner, or friend. But that doesn't mean you can't find common ground, the human eye can discern at least 1 million different colours, so there must be a few in there that both you like! But back to you. Look around you, what colour are the objects you surround yourself with? Your car, your phone case, your favourite top? Now take one of those colours and look either side of it, what would it look like darker or lighter, more muted or more vivid?
Decide on the shade that suits you and find a tester that matches, this can be the focal colour of a room, the thing that everything works around. Once you have this colour, what other colours might work? If its a yellow, can you find a nice blue to complement it ? People often get overwhelmed at the number of decisions that need to be made when designing a space, so when in doubt, go back to the fundamentals, hone in on what it is that gives you that warm feeling, and build around it. Once keys decisions are made, the rest become easier.
